Donated breast milk saving lives of Australia’s tiniest babies as demand surges

New Australian research shows that donated breast milk significantly reduces the risk of Necrotising Enterocolitis in premature babies. Since its launch in 2018, the Lifeblood donor milk service has distributed over 309,000 bottles, aiding more than 8,000 infants nationwide. Demand for donor milk continues to rise, necessitating approximately 5,000 liters annually to meet the needs across 46 hospitals.
